Hospital admission and dementia

Being admitted to hospital is a stressful experience under any circumstances. But for people living with dementia, it can also be confusing and potentially traumatic. This is complicated further by COVID-19 and the restrictions currently affecting the NHS.

Alzheimer Scotland has created a resource focusing on coming to hospital during the pandemic, while the Dementia Services Development Centre has general advice for managing a stay in hospital. This includes preparing for an admission, handling emergency admissions, items to pack in a hospital bag and supporting someone with dementia while they are in hospital.
