Cognitive Stimulation Therapy

Brain HealthCare & Support
Last updated on December 12, 2019

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is a brief treatment for people who have a formal diagnosis of mild or moderate stages of dementia. CST is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) as an evidence-based treatment which can be of benefit for individuals living with dementia.

In Stirling, Town Break runs a CST programme that involves 14 sessions of themed activities. This is often followed by a Maintenance CST course to help prolong the quality of life and cognitive benefits.

In the Forth Valley, Alzheimer Scotland runs Brain Gym sessions that also adopt the principles of CST.
