Free education for family, carers and volunteers

The education for family, carers and volunteers training programme covers aspects of dementia care that many people find difficult. You will receive practical, up to date advice and information to support you. The programme runs on the last Friday of every month. Digital Champions & Place Standard Tool Training

We have had a lot of positive feedback from this training and development day. I’d like to thank Irene Warner-Mackintosh – director of the Mhor Collective who provided the training on behalf of SCVO for an excellent digital champion’s session which people fed back they had lots of ideas, knowledge and insight to take away.

Also thank you to:

John Howie – Organisational Lead, Health Equity (Place) Place & Equity Team, NHS Health Scotland
Jillian Gibson – Community Engagement Team People, Planning and Performance
Andy Davis – Community Link Officer, Community Engagement at Stirling Council
Donna Patterson – Dementia Adviser at Alzheimer Scotland

We were informed about the background to the Place Standard Tool, how it can be applied and took part in practical session on completing the tool. Donna Patterson finished the day by drawing on her experience and involving everyone in looking at how the tool could be adapted for dementia accessibility. One outcome from the day is that John will be formalising a request that health Scotland progress a dementia friendly version of the tool as part of the next round of population / life stage adaptions.

OCN Strand Leaders Meeting

OCN strand leads had another productive meeting last week. We had updates on progress, overall planning and coordination, and defined action plan priorities. One outcome is the strand leads will be meeting more regularly as the work gets busier.

International Masterclass on Dementia Care, Design and Ageing

Organised by our colleagues at the University of Stirling and DSDC the master class will be taking place on the 13th and 14th of November this year. Follow the link for more details https://bit.ly/2OMajco.

The Audition, A Jukebox Opera on Your Doorstep

We are really very excited about this series of performances which will take place in a number of our partner and neighbourhood care settings. These performances will be used as a way to start neighbourhood conversations about the Neighbourhood Festival we are planning on 5th and 6th July next year.

Three singers arrive for a mysterious audition. They haven’t seen each other for a long time, but when they get together they can’t help but burst into song. Written by popular playwright Rachel Barnett, directed by award-winning director Helen Eastman and assistant director Keltie Forsyth, and featuring internationally renowned professional opera singers.
